Needing to purchase ID cards externally from a vendor is not the right choice for every business, especially for organizations with a large headcount of staff. In these situations, having a capable ID card printer on hand can streamline both onboarding and operations.

Having access to a reliable, versatile ID card printer can streamline your marketing efforts, cut costs for your organization, improve communications, and much more. Here are some of the top benefits of having your own printer in-house as opposed to outsourcing.

Convenience

For organizations that deal with a lot of turnover or employee mobility, the need to print new badge designs or change titles on badges may come up frequently. It makes no sense to wait weeks or months for a printer or designer to make those changes when you can do it yourself.

Cost-Efficient High-Volume Printing

If you only print a new badge every few months, it might make sense for you to partner with a third-party provider to design and print your badges. But at a certain point, it’s very likely you’ll save money if you print your own badges in-house, especially for enterprise-level operations with a large count of employees, with new hires and employee promotions taking place regularly.

Scalability

Aside from the fact that you may be able to save money with your own ID card printer, you may be able to scale operations as well. There will be less of a need to project lead times for purchasing or designing new badges, especially if you do it in-house. The supply chain will shrink and you’ll be able to design and print name badges with greater efficiency.

Boost Security and Access Control

By eliminating the need to wait around for or rely on your badge printing service, you can also strengthen security protocols. When you need a new badge or a new set of badges, you can simply print them in-house. Eliminating the need to wait for orders of new name tags to be delivered, you can improve visual security around your offices and facilities.

Greater Control and Flexibility

Have you ever experienced a misstep in communication with a supplier or even a seller that required you to backtrack in order to fix the error? The more you bring in-house, the less likely that is to happen - you can oversee every step of the process from planning through the design of new ID badges and then print as needed.

Boost Marketing Efforts

By taking greater control of your badge designing and printing process, you can potentially boost the power of your brand, improving marketing efforts, creating a better experience between employees and customers as well.

What ID Card Printer Capabilities Are There?

Here at Imprint Plus, we sell two main types of ID card printers; what we call entry-level printers and then what we call mid-level printers.

Entry Level Printers

We offer two different classes of ID card printers that we consider entry level: our Smart 31S Single-Sided Printers and our Smart 31D Dual-Sided Printers which can print on both sides.

Both of these printers offer unique functionality and features. For example, they both offer edge-to-edge printing for high-quality, detailed, professional-looking ID cards, either in 300, 600, or 1,200 DPI.

Print speeds vary according to function. For monochrome printing, both the single and dual-sided printers can print a card in 5 seconds, up to 720 cards per hour. For YMCKO and YMCKOK they teak 20 and 26 seconds per card max, respectively.

These systems feature two simple LED buttons at the front for easy operation and offer UV printing functionality to print quality, durable cards.

Mid Level ID Card Printers

Our Mid Level 51 Series Wizard is capable of either single (51S) or double-sided (51D) card printing, the latter of which is capable of lamination (51L) as well when equipped with a Flipper or Laminator Module. These printers are capable of producing higher-quality ID cards, even though that feature holograms (for improved security), and feature DLW (Direct Laminating in a Wink) technology.

Like the entry-level 31 Series, the 51 Series also offers edge-to-edge printing and either 300, 600, or 1,200 DPI. It can also print a monochromatic card in 5 seconds, but is a little bit faster with YMCKO and YMCKOK printing, printing a card in 17 or 22 seconds each, respectively. These advanced systems are a little faster and a little bit quieter than our more basic systems, as well.

They also feature UV printing for durability and longevity, as well as 2 LED operator buttons and a 2-line LCD display for ease of management and use. The Smart 51L also offers holographic lamination to improve visual security and boost card durability. High-quality, reliable in-house bade printing is within reach. These mid-level printers even feature quieter operation.

Regardless of which version is most suitable for your organization, all of our ID badge printers produce professional-quality name tags, cards, and badges.
